Pratap Luitel

People leader with a love for infrastructure and scale.

Journey
Colby College

Studied Mathematics in a rich liberal arts environment. It is where I fell in love with prime numbers and infinities. Concepts that are simple to state and endlessly deep to explore. That sense of wonder has never really left me.

Thayer School of Engineering

Earned a BE in Computer Engineering at one of the country's top engineering schools. Dartmouth is where I started appreciating the art of end to end ownership, taking an engineering system from idea all the way through to something real and delivered.

Software Engineer

My first real taste of scale. I integrated the first doorbell camera on the Alarm.com platform. The camera went on to sell close to a million units, and what started as a novel integration quickly became a lesson in what happens when a product takes off faster than the infrastructure beneath it. Watching the backend strain under rapid adoption, and then being part of figuring out how to hold it together, is what made me fall in love with scalable systems and architecture. That early chaos planted a seed that has defined my career.

Senior Software Engineer

Started working directly under the VP of Software to grow and maintain the backend infrastructure. Took on increasingly complex systems and began contributing to architecture decisions. Started mentoring junior engineers and became a go-to for hard technical problems.

Engineering Manager · SRE

Built and led the SRE team from the ground up, supporting ~10 million security cameras across ~5 million customers worldwide. Scaled on-prem and Azure infrastructure across international regions through 100x product growth while maintaining 99.99% uptime. During my tenure, company revenue grew from $100M to ~$1B and the Video org scaled from 10 to 100 engineers.

Values
The collective

The feeling of achieving something together with people you've toiled with is truly magical. That shared journey is the core of why I lead.

Safe to fail

Ensuring psychological safety in the team to take risks and fail is important to me. A team can only truly flourish if they feel safe to speak their mind and try new things.

The longer view

I care about things beyond the immediate deadline. Both while building product and teams.

Whole humans

We are more than the 8 hours we spend at work. I want to know the people on my team beyond their job titles.
